Santa Teresa, Costa Rica
On the western coast of the Nicoya Peninsula is a hidden gem, a favorite of locals and distant travelers alike: Santa Teresa.
Santa Teresa is a small village that delivers big when it comes to the Costa Rican experience and a beautiful tropical environment. Located just slightly north of Malpais, Santa Teresa is a favorite of beach-goers and surfers alike. And of course, you’ll find optimal sea fishing opportunities along the coast of Santa Teresa, as well!
About Santa Teresa, Costa Rica
Santa Teresa is home to two of the most beloved beaches in Costa Rica, Playa Santa Teresa and Playa Carmen. Santa Teresa’s beach is unique in that it’s surrounded by rainforest -- development along the beach is minimal in some areas, giving you a sense of being completely surrounded by nature. Surfers frequent this area because of the impressive, strong waves that roll in from the Pacific Ocean.
But just a short walk from the beach, you’ll find a quaint town with restaurants, nightlife, and plenty of charming hotel accommodations.
When it comes to fishing, the waters of Santa Teresa are the place to be. Not only will you have the opportunity to catch some impressive fish, but you’ll also be treated to crystal clear waters and sugar white sand beaches the entire time.
In addition, you may see whales, dolphins, or sea turtles out on the water. And Santa Teresa is just 5 kilometers from the Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve, which is home to dozens of unique seabird species.
